STERILISATIONS WITH ANIMAID

Sterilisations are a crucial step in reducing the population of stray animals, which are unfortunately increasing day by day in Aspropyrgos. Stray dogs are forced to live on the roads and barren industrial landscapes due to negligence, with lack of food and veterinary care. In an area with such high numbers of stray animals, sterilisations […]

A HANDY TOOL: MAP OF LOCAL ANIMAL WELFARE GROUPS

How many of us have been on holiday, only to be faced with countless sick and hungry strays? Whether on the beaches of Thailand; the streets of Turkey; or loitering hopefully outside a Greek restaurant, it begs the question…what can we, as tourists, do to help?

WHERE WE WENT IN 2020

Despite 2020 being one of the most challenging years we’ve faced as a charity, we were still able to reach well over 1000 animals across Greece for veterinary care, sterilisation or treatment, including 817 cats, 205 dogs and 129 equidae (horses, donkeys and mules)…

A HAPPY ENDING FOR ONE LUCKY OLD BOY

In April last year, the volunteers from Ghost Dogs of Aspropyrgos first met 9 year old Bad. No longer of any use to his hunter owner, he was dumped on a mountain side outside of Athens…

THE “GHOSTS” GET THEIR MEDS

KEEPING GOING UNDER CORONA LOCKDOWN Let’s hear it for the volunteers that are still going out on a daily basis to care for the neighbourhood strays! This (on the left) is Alexandros Kantzilieris, leading light of the “Ghost Dogs of Aspropyrgos” greeting an old friend. We’ve been supporting the group for some time and we […]

She’s just one of the 50 “ghost dogs” that we sterilised last year. She had been particularly badly let down by humanity. […]

Irma, Gigi and Jojoba got their “happy endings”

Irma, Gigi, and Jojoba all had the worst possible start in life but we have received news of some ‘happy endings’ that we thought you’d like to hear about… Last year the three pups were dumped, along with their mother, Truffle, and one further sibling, on a hillside above Aspropyrgos (a run-down industrial area) outside […]

ASPROPIRGOS CTVT

July 2017. Do you believe in ghosts? Is the industrial suburb of Aspropyrgos really full of invisible creatures? Animal Action Greece Hellas decided to investigate the mystery…and ended up meeting Bongo, Beaglena and Blacky. These three, all-too-real ‘ghosts’, were each suffering from CTVT (Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumours) – the oldest type of cancer known in nature – and […]
