A NEW STATEMENT ON THE RISKS OF MINK FARMING

Eurogroup for Animals and the Fur Free Alliance have released a scientific statement on public health risks associated with SARS-CoV-2 and intensive mink production, signed by numerous scientists from the fields of virology, infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, veterinary medicine and environmental health.

The statement follows a letter, co-signed by Animal Action Greece in December 2020, calling for the immediate suspension of mink farming across Europe, and comes in the wake of numerous outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2 in mink farms in several European countries, including on 2 farms in Greece. This constitutes a proportionate reason for the EU to urgently suspend mink farming across Europe.

Millions of mink have already been ‘preventatively’ culled but the virus still poses a huge risk to both animal and human life.
