In the 5th mass cat neutering event that has taken place on the island of Syros between Saturday 5th to Monday 7th of October, the very talented, hardworking and efficient team managed to neuter and spay another 99 cats!
This number is very impressive given the fact that on the third day it was stormy with heavy rain on the island, making it extremely difficult to trap cats. However, the team was determined to succeed, and they did! Even our own Serafina Avramidou participated in the trapping, a new skill for her!
So far in 2019 this joint collaboration has succeeded in neutering 512 cats. None of this would have been possible without Dr. Manolis Vorrisis with his Aegean Cats, we live together (a vet practice with a social purpose) and the volunteers of Syros Cats, organized and led by Flora Vlachou and Jacky Storey. Animal Action Greece Hellas continues to support this island cat population strategy, which aims to neuter 90% of the island’s estimated 3,000 cats over three years. We are all please that this collaboration is also now supported by FOUR PAWS International, jointly committed to our common goal of at least 700 neutered cats before the end of 2019, and hopefully more than that! This 5th trip was especially good, as Animal Action Greece Trustee and vet David Salisbury-Jones along with Ariel Brunn, also a vet, from FOUR PAWS were there to see the wonderful work taking place!
