Six months since the start of our community cat care on Paros and Antiparos

In our ongoing commitment to the welfare of the cats on Paros and Antiparos, we are thrilled to provide you with the latest update on our project.

The core objective of our project is to create a substantial, positive impact through a comprehensive community based approach. We aim to address the issues faced by the stray cats of Paros and Antiparos by neutering, microchipping, vaccinating, treating the cats on the two islands, along with engaging and educating the local community.

We are working with local animal welfare groups Cats of Antiparos, Cats Eden, ParosCats, Paros Animal Welfare Society and Φιλόζωοι Εθελοντές Πάρου (FEP Vet Centre) who have dedicated themselves to effecting positive change through their tireless efforts.

As a result, we are thrilled to highlight the impressive strides achieved in the past few months. In September, 181 cats underwent neutering, followed by 294 in October, all of which included essential procedures such as vaccinations, microchipping, and deworming.

This brings the total number of cats caught, neutered and vaccinated since the start of the project in March to 931 cats.

These numbers represent not only a crucial step in ensuring the welfare of these cats but also a testament to our commitment to supporting the community that grapples with the challenges posed by the ever-growing population of strays on the islands. Each year, these colonies expand, and dedicated volunteers find themselves stretched to capacity trying to feed and care for them. Identifying cats in need of treatment for conditions like cat flu and parasites becomes an additional challenge. We take pride in supporting a project that actively combats this dilemma, offering a lifeline to the cats and hope to the community.

Heartfelt congratulations to Cats of Antiparos, Cats Eden, ParosCats, PAWS and our very own Animal Action Assistant Matina Guerra for supporting the team with trapping and vet trips. The achievements we see today wouldn’t be possible without their combined hard work. Make sure to follow their individual Facebook pages linked above for exclusive behind-the-scenes updates on this project.

We would also like to extend our thank you to our supporters for your ongoing support and dedication to our cause.

Special recognition also goes to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home for their support of the project.
