EUROPEAN COMMISSION ANNOUNCE COMMITMENT TO ‘END THE CAGE AGE’

Ending the month of June on a high, the European Commission yesterday committed to phase out cages in animal farming across the EU by 2027 – a move that marks a monumental change for millions of farm animals.

The Commission plans to prohibit cages for over 300 million hens, pigs, calves, rabbits, ducks, geese and other farmed animals every single year. But efforts to ‘End the Cage Age’ have not been easy: it’s taken 3 years, 170 organisations, and 1.4 million EU citizens to achieve this victory.

“Farmed animals have never had so many people standing up for them. From caged hens who long to stretch their wings, to sows who want to mother their piglets unconfined, and rabbits who deserve the space to hop – each one of them now has a better chance in life, thanks to you.” – End the Cage Age

As long-standing members of Eurogroup for Animals, we’re proud to have supported this campaign and look forward to seeing the legislation being put into practice.
