Copywriting tips to boost your fundraising

You don’t need to be a professional writer to raise funds effectively — just a few small tweaks in how you tell your story can make a big difference. Whether you’re posting on social media, writing a fundraising email, or updating your website, here are some quick, practical tips to help your words inspire action.

  1. Make it about the animal — and the reader

Instead of: “We rescued a cat from the street.”
Try: “This tiny cat was starving on the street — but you can help change her future.”
Tip: Use the word “you” to involve the reader emotionally and make them feel part of the solution.

  1. Show urgency without pressure

Avoid: “We need money fast!”
Try: “Without urgent treatment, her chances are slim — but with your help, we can act now.”
Tip: Focus on what could happen with their help, not just what’s going wrong.

  1. Use one clear ask

Don’t list too many donation options.
Do say: “Just £10 can provide food and medicine for one rescued dog.”
Tip: Be specific and simple — one ask, one impact.

  1. Use photos that tell the story

A close-up of the animal in need (eyes are powerful) + a short caption = an emotional hook.
Tip: Use “before and after” photos if possible, and always credit photographers if needed.

  1. Keep it short, simple, and heartfelt

You don’t need long explanations or technical language.
Use simple, warm language and avoid acronyms.
“She was found in a box. Cold. Hungry. Alone. Now she’s safe — thanks to people like you.”

  1. End with a call to action

“Can you help today?”
“Donate now to change a life.”
“Every share or donation makes a difference.”
Tip: Always tell people what to do next.

Copywriting is just storytelling with a purpose. With a few small tweaks, your posts, emails, or appeals can go from being seen — to being acted on.
