Greece’s wildfires have begun – Animals need us urgently

Wildfires have begun erupting across Greece following days of extreme heat and strong winds.

These fires are already tearing through towns, forests and countryside, forcing families to evacuate and leaving widespread devastation in their path. While the damage to homes and land is visible, the suffering of animals caught in these fires is often hidden from view.

Every year, pets are left behind during evacuations, stray animals lose the little safety they have, and shelters become overwhelmed with the sudden influx of animals in desperate need. Wildlife is displaced or injured, with many species suffering burns, smoke inhalation and dehydration. Working animals and farm animals are also at risk, many left without food, water or shelter as the fires destroy grazing areas and supplies.

Animal Action Greece is working closely with local rescuers, vets, and shelters to respond as quickly as possible. We are helping to provide emergency food, clean water, and shelter for displaced animals, arranging urgent veterinary care for those with burns or smoke damage, and supporting the transport of animals in immediate danger to safety. We are also working to help wildlife and working animals affected by the fires, ensuring no animal is left behind.

HOW YOUR DONATION HELPS:

The scale of these fires means that our resources are under immense pressure, and with more extreme weather expected, the need will only increase in the weeks ahead.

Every donation, no matter the size, can make a difference.

  • A contribution of £10 could provide emergency food and water.
  • £25 could help cover the cost of veterinary treatment for an injured animal.
  • £50 could help transport animals from danger to safety.

Your support allows us to respond immediately, to protect vulnerable animals and give them the care they need during this crisis. With your help, we can make sure that no animal is left to face the devastation alone.
